Family of Eateries Web App

Overview

Family of Eateries is a web application that brings together three unique restaurants "Cheviche, Crispy's, and 5Vines" into one seamless digital experience. Designed to enhance convenience and connection, the app allows users to browse menus, reserve tables, and explore each restaurant’s story and heritage within a unified, visually engaging interface. By combining functionality with storytelling, this project focuses on creating a cohesive user experience while preserving the individuality of each brand under one digital umbrella.

🧠 Understanding the problem

Diners often struggle to navigate different restaurant websites or apps, especially when brands are owned by the same parent company. There was a need for a unified platform where users could explore, interact with, and reserve from multiple restaurants without friction.

The product vision

🔍 Research

I analyzed existing multi-restaurant platforms like OpenTable, Yelp, and corporate group websites (e.g., those with multiple restaurant brands). Key observations:

  • Many users disliked being redirected to separate sites for each restaurant.
  • Brand identities were often diluted when grouped under a single platform.
  • Mobile experiences were frequently inconsistent or clunky.
  • 🧭 Competitive Analysis

To design a cohesive and user-friendly experience for the Family of Eateries app, I began by identifying key user pain points and industry trends related to restaurant browsing and reservations.

👥 User Behavior Insights (assumed from informal testing/interviews)

I spoke informally with a few users and reviewed online feedback on restaurant apps. From this, I gathered that:

  • Users want to see menus before anything else, ideally without having to download a PDF.
  • People enjoy reading stories about a restaurant especially when they are locally owned or family-operated.
  • Users appreciate a consistent navigation system when switching between restaurants in a group.
